Basics of English Paper Piecing (EPP)

Learn the basics of English Paper Piecing (EPP) through the beautiful Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses block!  If you've never done EPP, this is a great place to start - it looks much harder than it actually is!

Melinda will cover choosing optimum fabrics, fussy cutting using the Magic Mirror, glue basting, and the flat back stitch; plus we'll touch on how to set your blocks.  You can work on a whole quilt or something much smaller!

The techniques you learn here can be transferred to any EPP pattern.

Registered participants will receive a link to some prep videos a few days before class, and after class will receive a link to longer, more in-depth videos, so you can solidify what we learned, and you'll have access to them all for a week afterward.  And of course Melinda is available for questions forever on Facebook and Instagram!

There is a class minimum of 5.  You will be notified approximately 7 days before class if it is cancelled.  If cancelled, you will receive a full refund of the class fee.

Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details:
Instructor: Melinda Stanton
Instructor Bio: Melinda began sewing and doing needlework in elementary school: making clothes, doing counted cross-stitch, embroidery, and needlepoint. She made a couple of quilts in the BC (before children) years back in the 1900s, before the rotary cutter! Then she taught choir in public school for over 20 years, and the sewing machine languished in the closet. But she is happily retired now, very active in the local guild, and sews and quilts as much and as often as possible. She is especially drawn to scrappy quilts, tiny pieces, and stars. Plus English Paper Piecing is sort of an obsession. She's won some ribbons and awards, and that's been fun. It was especially exciting to have a quilt hang at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in the Guild Showcase in 2017, and in 2019 TWO, one in the Sapphire Celebration and "Lucy Comes to Texas" in the juried competition! "Lucy" was accepted in the AQS show in Paducah for the Spring 2020 show, but sadly that show was cancelled due to COVID. Please visit Melinda! On Facebook at Melinda Stanton, Quilter or on Instagram.
